Dominic Flynn
Dominic Flynn is an Australian composer.
Born in nipaluna/Hobart in 1997, Dominic grew up playing the drums in local bands before shifting focus to composition. He has since studied in Australia with several composers, and in the United Kingdom with Michael Finnissy.
Dominic’s music has been commissioned and performed both at home and overseas, and he has collaborated with ensembles such as Decibel New Music Ensemble, CMR Contemporary Music Ensemble, Ensemble Mania, The Hedberg Ensemble, The Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), Hobart Wind Symphony, and the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra, and soloists such as Michael Finnissy, Antony Gray, Jennifer Yu, and Michael Kieran Harvey. Pieces of his have been selected for the official Australian submission to the 2023 ISCM World New Music Days festival, and have featured in the 2022 Ossa Music Prize winning concert and in the APRA Art Music Award nominated Two Minutes from Home project.
Dominic’s recent projects include receiving a grant to workshop a new piece in London with pianist Antony Gray, and performances at the Mona Foma 2023 Festival, the Bouchard Morisset Hall in Quebec, and City University of London. Upcoming projects include performances in Australia, Italy, and Germany.
