This works is part of a set of four short pieces that Elizabeth composed sometime before 2012 to showcase locations around lutruwita/Tasmania that meaning for her. (The others being Sisters Beach; The Hazards; and Salamanca Market)
Tarn Shelf is situated in Mount Field National Park.
The shelf consists of several tarns, or lakes, Johnston Tarn; Mackenzie Tarn; James Tarn, and Robert Tarn.
Exceptional alpine scenery adorns the Tarn Shelf. Tasmania’s deciduous beech Northofagus gunnii is present in this area and during April will turn the scenery from greens and greys to golds and russet reds.
